Amanda and Chris are engaged to be married May 19th, 2007. A few days ago, we had our practice session (a.k.a. the engagement session) and it went very well. We went down to my private outdoor studio - St. Anthony Main and just roamed around.
I think the three of us were pretty amazed it hadn't rained yet as it looked like it was going to do so all day. Lucky for us it held out and thanks to the clouds, the light was beautiful.
I love watching peoples' guards let down after a few minutes in front of the camera. Something happens to all of us when a camera gets put into your face. I imagine many of you would recognize the "deer-in-the-headlights" smile mile away; yet we all still get caught doing it. You should see mine - it's not pretty. Actually, I tend to scowl more than smile. It's not easy for to get a photograph of me that I'm gonna like.
And since we're on the subject, this is what I enjoy very much about being a wedding and portrait photographer. If I've done my job right, my subject is going to have a portrait of themselves that they really like; if not love! I have a couple of portraits of me that I REALLY like. For me, this is a wonderful feeling. And it's that feeling that I want to give to everyone I photograph.
